A GREEN HOTEL
Thorbjørnrud Hotel is proudly certified as an environmentally friendly business and takes sustainability seriously. We obtained our environmental certification on February 26, 2008, and have been working diligently since then to implement sustainable solutions.
ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS PRODUCTS
We practice waste sorting and opt for environmentally certified products such as detergents and napkins. Additionally, we use organic wellness products from Elm Organics, representing the pinnacle of sustainability. This is beneficial for both our guests and the environment. You can find Elm's wellness products in our bathrooms and purchase them to take home from our lobby shop.
OWN CULTIVATION OF FRUITS, VEGETABLES & WINE
At Thorbjørnrud, we prioritize using locally sourced food and drinks whenever possible. We have our own kitchen garden and herb garden where we harvest everything from vegetables to fruits and flowers when they are in season. Our own vegetable cultivation project helps to reduce the transportation distances for the food we use. We have invested heavily in cultivating our own wine with over 6000 grapevines. This will decrease the need to purchase wine and significantly reduce emissions from travel and transportation. In our brewery, we use Norwegian malt to support local ingredients and to prevent long travel distances.
LOCAL AND REGIONAL FOOD
At the same time, we support local suppliers of meat, vegetables, and eggs. Among these, you'll find cheeses from Thorbjørnrud Ysteri, sausages and cured meats from Ask Gård, and meat from Brandbu Pølsemakeri, to name a few. These products are used during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Instead of discarding leftover food, the kitchen incorporates it into new dishes served during lunch.
WOOD CHIP HEATING
To reduce electricity consumption at Thorbjørnrud, we use large quantities of wood chips in our wood chip heating system. Heat recovery in our ventilation system and wood chip heating system contribute to increased energy efficiency and reduce our environmental impact.
