HIKING

Thorbjørnrud Hotell is located right by Nordmarka and has many great hiking opportunities in forests and fields, in peaks and valleys. Here is a collection of the best and most picturesque hikes we have nearby. So bring a backpack, thermos and hiking shoes.

Mørkgonga
The most beautiful view of Krokskogen - Mørkgonga

Mørkgonga is a gully - a marked crack in the lava plate that covers Krokskogen. The gully itself is located at the top of the steep slope between Gyrihaugen and Steinsfjorden, and was formed when molten rock from deep underground solidified on the surface. This rock has since eroded away because it was less resistant than the surrounding mountain. The hike up is relatively steep, first on a nice path, then loose scree and easy scrambling up through the gully (ropes are laid out in the most exposed parts). You can do the hike as a round trip of about 8 km by turning right at the top and going down via Skardtjern. It is also possible to continue the hike up to Gyrihaugen once you have reached Mørkgonga.

More about the hike can be found here

Mørkgonga og Gyrihaugen
Devil's Punch Bowl and Tiurtoppen
In Krokskogen in Ringerike you will find the gorge Devil's Punch Bowl and the fantastic viewpoint Tiurtoppen.

These great hiking destinations are located close to each other and can therefore be experienced on the same trip or separately. Set aside plenty of time, because there is a lot of great things to see here! Most people do the hike from the Montessori school in Åsa, but if you want a shorter and not quite as steep hike, you can also do it from Jaklefoss right by Ringkollen. Depending on which starting point you choose, the hike is between 4-6 km and is well suited for children. It is a well-trodden path all the way.

Svarttjernshøgda
Nordmarka's highest peak!

Only 15 minutes from the hotel you will find Svarttjernshøgda; The highest peak in Nordmarka, Oslomarka and Jevnaker municipality with its 717 m. Start the hike at Tverrsjøstallen or at a suitable parking lot at Ølja. Go as a round trip or as a loop. No matter which route you choose, it is neither long nor high - it is therefore well suited for children. At the top there is a viewing tower from 1985 that gives you a 360 degree view of Nordmarka and Jevnaker. The terrain is varied, and there is lots of blueberry heather along the path - the perfect autumn hike in other words!

Svarttjernshøgda - Nordmarkas høyeste topp
Hinghanghaug
We don't know why it's called Hinghanghaug, but what we do know is that the view is phenomenal towards Jevnaker, Randsfjorden and further north.

Hinghanghaug is located in Nordmarka 595 m above sea level, on the border between Ringerike and Jevnaker.

The hiking destination can be reached from two directions, either from Østerdam right past Ringkollen, or from Åsbygda along FV 241. If you have children on the trip, we recommend taking the trip from Østerdam.

From Østerdam it's about 5 km of easy walking through exciting and varied terrain. Hinghanghaug is this year on Ringerike's 10 top list.

You can find the map here

HINGHANGHAUG
Lamannshaugen
One of Nordmarka's "top five"

Lamannshaugen is one of Nordmarka's highest peaks, and among those with the best views without an observation tower. The summit itself is located at 705.5 meters, but the viewpoint that is the real icing on the cake is located at 701 meters above sea level. From the viewpoint you get a panoramic view of Jevnaker and the Randsfjord that winds northward. On a clear day, you can also glimpse Jotunheimen from here. The hike is family-friendly and can be done from several directions. If you have small children, it is recommended to start at Mylla. From here the hike is 5 km / 192 meters in altitude on a nice trail (formerly a tractor road for a short distance). If you want a longer hike, you can take the hike from Toso, which is twice as long and 300 extra meters in altitude.
