AFTERNOON TEA

At Thorbjørnrud, we’ve begun offering traditional Afternoon Tea, a British custom dating back to the 1800s when it was common to enjoy a light meal between lunch and dinner. This elegant tradition, which gained popularity among the upper class during the Victorian era, is renowned for its sophisticated presentation and exquisite flavors.

Traditionally, Afternoon Tea includes delicate finger sandwiches with fillings such as cucumber, smoked salmon, egg and cress, or ham and mustard, often cut into small squares or triangles. It also features scones—soft, round pastries served with jam and clotted cream—and an array of sweet treats like small cakes, tarts, or macarons. Classics such as lemon tart, Victoria sponge, and chocolate desserts are often part of the experience. The tea itself, the heart of Afternoon Tea, is typically black but may also include green teas, Earl Grey, and fruity blends.

At Thorbjørnrud, however, Afternoon Tea is a truly unique experience. Our philosophy is that local and seasonal ingredients are always best. We blend the British tradition with our love for local and seasonal flavors, resulting in a distinctive culinary delight. Our tiered serving trays are brimming with sandwiches, cakes, scones, and other Afternoon Tea delicacies, all crafted from the finest ingredients sourced locally. Even the tea is freshly brewed and carefully selected to complete the experience.
